Key Uses
Metrone 400mg is effective against infections caused by anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that don’t need oxygen) and certain parasites. Common applications include:
- Gastrointestinal Infections: Treatment of amoebiasis (amoebic dysentery), giardiasis, and stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.
- Reproductive & Sexually Transmitted Infections: Used for trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis.
- Dental Infections: Management of gum ulcers, dental abscesses, and acute gingivitis.
- Post-Surgical Prophylaxis: Prevention of infections following surgery or childbirth.
- Other Areas: Infections of the skin, bone, joints, lungs (such as pneumonia), and brain abscesses.

Usage and Safety
- Dosage: Usually taken 2–3 times daily, though a single dose is sufficient for some infections. It is recommended to take the tablet 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
- Alcohol Warning: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication and for at least 48–72 hours after finishing the course. Mixing the two can cause severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and a pounding heartbeat.
- Common Side Effects: These may include a metallic taste in the mouth, nausea, headache, and dry mouth.
- Completion: You must finish the entire prescribed course even if you feel better to prevent the infection from returning or developing antibiotic resistance.
