Jucopan-Antispasmodic Medication Tablets
JUCOPAN is an antispasmodic medication widely used to relieve smooth muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal (GI) and urinary tracts. It is frequently utilized in Nigeria as a generic, cost-effective alternative to the brand-name drug Buscopan.
Active Ingredient & Mechanism
Each tablet contains 10mg of Hyoscine Butylbromide (also known as Scopolamine Butylbromide). Unlike general painkillers that mask pain signals, Jucopan works directly on the smooth muscles of the abdomen by blocking the action of acetylcholine. This relaxes the involuntary muscle contractions that cause cramping
Common Uses
Jucopan typically begins providing relief within 15 to 30 minutes of administration for conditions such as: [1]
Abdominal Cramps and stomach aches
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms
Period Pain (menstrual cramps)
Bladder and Biliary Spasms (discomfort in the urinary and bile ducts) [1]
🩺 Typical Dosage
Adults and children over 6 years old:
The typical dose is 1 tablet (10mg) taken 3 to 5 times daily.
Maximum Daily Dose: Do not exceed 6 tablets (60mg) within a 24-hour period.
Administration: Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew them.
Side Effects & Precautions
Jucopan is generally well-tolerated, but some users may experience:
Dry mouth
Blurred vision or dizziness
Constipation
Difficulty urinating
Contraindications: Do not take Jucopan without medical advice if you have glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, a history of bowel blockages, or specific heart conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, always consult a healthcare professional before use.
